I have to start somewhere

Hello Ladies (and Gentlemen, if you're reading):
I have a desire to encourage you in Christ, but the ONLY WAY I can even attempt to do that is by getting encouragement from my Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. I am amazed each and every day at the way HE know my every need!

I was just impacted tonight from watching a dynamic Missionary Video about a missionary pilot who was kidnapped by guerillas in the jungles of South America! Miraculously, he was able to escape after a few days of being held hostage. But, the most dynamic part was how this missionary used the Word of God to become active & alive in His life for those moments of captivity.

I don't know about you, but I'm not being held captive right now, but am I using my FREEDOM to allow the Word of God to become ALIVE to me??!! I had to really check myself on this one. Hebrews 4:12 says "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."

First of all the Word of God is POWERFUL! I can use it to defeat my Foe! I can use it to help me with lust, anger, bitterness, gossip, submission! Are you like me? Taking God's Word for granted? Having a weapon, but keeping it hidden? Having the best tool, but not even using it?

Second, I was convicted that the Word is discerner of the thoughts and intents of my hearts. His Word knows what my heart wants to do before I even do it. The Word knows when I don't feel like praying or reading or witnessing or obeying! What's the point of hiding? The Bible also tells us in Jeremiah 17:9 that "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?" Even if I TRY to trust my own heart, it will just deceive me. So, I must TRUST God's Word who knows the intents of my heart.

My heart was challenged tonight by watching this movie. What am I doing for the cause of Christ? If they made a movie of my life, what would it be called? What Scripture reference would they use? Was she a Woman of the Word or a Waste for the World?

What about you? How are you using the Word of God today? Is the Word physically sitting on your shelf collecting dust or looking pretty for your house guest who come in? Or is the Word taking root in your heart as you hear it preached at church & as you study it daily?

I couldn't procrastinate any longer. I had to start this blog for any who may read it and be encouraged. Or better yet, so I can read it & examine my own life!
